2023 Medical Mission to the Dominican Republic

This coming October 11th until the following Wednesday the 18th, an Episcopal medical mission team, supported by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood, Florida, will be traveling to the DR to the barrio of La Barquita, which means “little boat” because the barrio resides in a flood zone by a river. The group is comprised of Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Non-medical staff, Interpreters and Clergy.

There, the team will run a week-long medical clinic in the upstairs of the parish hall of Saints Peter and Paul Episcopal Church, offering basic medical care to the residents of the neighborhood. We are still in need of doctors, PAs, nurse practitioners and other professional medical people.

The members of this mission team are expected to pay for their own expenses, such as airfare, lodging and food, while taking part in this trip. Transportation to and from the airport and clinic each day is provided as well as daily lunches prepared by the parishioners. Water is available and team members are asked to bring their own reusable water bottles. The team does however solicit donations for the purchases of medical equipment and medicines that are used during the clinic. Should medications/supplies be available at the end of the clinic this year, they will be donated to the Episcopal Home for the Elderly, located just outside the capital of Santo Domingo. They are in such great need of so many of these items.

Gift cards in any amount would be gratefully appreciated from Amazon, Walmart, CVS and Walgreens to help defray our expenses. Most of our supplies are purchased from these suppliers in advance of the journey. These items are brought to the mission in trunks by the missioners. We do ship some items and this is quite expensive. Most of the medications are purchased from the DR, where prices are much less than in the U.S.
