Rector's Thoughts and Reflections

August 1, 2004

Looking Ahead

In anticipation of our new fall Sunday schedule, those attending All Saints in August will notice dramatic changes in our bulletin format.  Reflecting comments by members and being sensitive to how we respond to the Eucharistic liturgy, the bulletin will be a smaller, single "Z" page, offering page references to the Book of Common Prayer, while retaining the full text of the proper of. the day.

Additionally, we are reintroducing a separate "Parish Life" single page overview of the current Sunday's activities, a week at a glance, and ministry information pertaining to the next Sunday.  This weekly "Parish Life" publication is meant to be used as a reference at home, as it will have valuable information about upcoming events and meetings relating to this community, our life together, and the ministry we have beyond the four Walls of this parish.

The weekly celebration of the Eucharist is an incredible powerful reality in our lives and reflects the faith that underscores our lives in the world. The bulletin is a valuable resource that lends assistance to our worship experience. An effective worship bulletin is about a constant balance between being extremely helpful to the worshipper and offering a cumbersome document that supersedes the very act and flow of our worship.  Without it, some, if not many, would feel lost and alienated, and beyond the body of Christ, which is intended to be inclusive in nature. A bulletin, may only be used for just over an hour, but it does make all the difference in the world.

We introduce this new bulletin format in August that we may have a time to run this format before our fall schedule. In other words, we are getting in a summer workout before fall's long distance run. In the fall our third bulletin, for the 9 a.m. "Gathering in Grace" will offer a full setting of . the Eucharist, from the authorized  "Enriching our Worship."

September 12th begins our fall schedule; at that time we move to three services: 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., all Eucharists.  Our Sunday morning schedule will also include two separate adult education hours, depending on the service you attend; at least three opportunities for fellowship; and Children's Christian Education following the 9 a.m. Eucharist in ' Gordon Mann Hall.
