Toothbrush, Washcloth, & Band-aid Sundays

How excited would you be if someone gave you a gift of a plastic zip lock bag containing a cheap thin washcloth and a toothbrush?  I have seen how treasured and thrilling these items are to people in the Dominican Republic who come to the medical mission clinics.  I will be going on my third trip in May, and we are in desperate need of these items plus band-aids for the clinic.  Over the next few Sundays you will have the opportunity to participate in this wonderful mission.  Bring to church with you these gifts:

Collection boxes will be located in the narthex and the parish hall. We need to have these by March 1.  Thank you so much, Dale Finn.

Vestry Nominations

There are five vestry members who are completing their three-year term and rotating off.  The Vestry Nominating Committee presents the following parishioners as candidates to be voted on during the annual meeting on February 8, 2009.  They are: Patty Blackmon, Stan Cooke, Wil Hamp, Marilyn Johnson, and Arthur McVitty.  Full bios are posted on the All Saints website.

Patricia (Patty) L. Blackmon
Patty and Johnny moved to Hilton Head from Marietta, Ga. over thirteen years ago. Originally from the Cleveland, Ohio area, she attended Youngstown State University where she received both her BS and MS in Education degrees.  After teaching for five years, she was accepted by Delta Air Lines, Inc as a flight attendant and remained with Delta for 26 years, ultimately retiring as a supervisor in 2003. During those 26 years, she primarily flew international flights when she was not instructing at Delta’s Learning Center.  After their move to Hilton Head in 1995, she began taking flying lessons at the local airport.  She subsequently obtained all her pilot ratings including a Flight Instructor’s rating and has been teaching students to fly since 2003. They joined All Saints in 1996 and since then Patty has been active as a participant of the Altar Guild, acting as Altar Guild chairperson for four years, ushering at the 8:00 am services and just recently was approved as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. They are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in June.  They have two married sons that live in Atlanta and have been blessed with three grandchildren, ages 4 years, 7 months, and 2 months. Now, however, their home revolves around their four footed children, 3 dogs and one cat.

Stanley Cooke
Stan is semi-retired from a forty plus year career in higher education and private practice in the field of adult communication disorders. He is still teaching graduate courses part-time in his profession via the internet in Kentucky, Georgia and New York. Prior vestry experience was in Charlottesville, Virginia at the Church of the Good Samaritan. Since moving to Hilton Head three years ago he has been active at All Saints serving on the Library Committee, the Garden Tour Committee, the Dominican Republic committee and traveled with the survey team to the Dominican Republic. He currently chairs the parish group fondly known as the "Saintly Singles".

WILFRID (WIL) HAMP
Wil is a graduate of Lehigh University with a BS in Accounting. After spending 17 years as a Corporate Controller with Sears, he opened his own accounting and tax practice. He is a cradle Episcopalian and has previously served on the vestry and has been Chairman of the Finance Commission for the past five years. Wil is a director on the Board of the All Saints Pre-School. Wil and his wife, Linda, have two grown children and three grandchildren. They have been members at All Saints since permanently moving to Hilton Head in 2002.

Marilyn Fraley Johnson, RDH
Marilyn has been a member of the Episcopal Church for over sixty three years.  Jim, a former Roman Catholic, joined the church after they were married in 1999.  Jim and Marilyn have been worshiping at All Saints Church since they arrived in South Carolina in 2003. They started the same Sunday that Father Rick began as Rector of the church. Since then, they have been members of the Supper Club each year, on a columbarium monthly team for two years, drive for Friends with Wheels and Jim is on an usher team. Since they have been with All Saints, Marilyn has served as Chair of the Flower Guild 2003, 2004, 2005, and Chair of the Garden Tour Board 2007.  Currently she is a member of the Daughters of The King, the Flower Guild, ECW and a greeter on Sunday mornings.

Arthur T. McVitty

Election of All Saints Foundation Board Members The All Saints Endowment has become inactive.  The Vestry has unanimously approved reforming the endowment as the All Saints Foundation to “establish, maintain, and grow an endowment fund, which is to be used to support All Saints Episcopal Church, its facilities, religious works, missions and outreach programs.”  The next step in this process is to elect five parishioners as the Foundation Board of Trustees.   The Vestry and the Rector have nominated the following parishioners to be elected at the February 8 Annual Meeting: Three Year Term: Michael Jordan, Jim Moore; Two Year Term: Chad Minifie, David Russert; One Year Term: Paul Kopelcheck.  Additional information is available on the All Saints Website.  If you have questions about the Foundation or these nominations, please contact the Senior Warden or Rector.
