Friends With Wheels

Friends With Wheels is an all-volunteer group serving our community.  It has been in existence for more than 10 years.  We drive residents to medical and social services appointments.

Can you imagine having to go to see a doctor and not being able to get there because there is no automobile in your family, or no one to take you?  There are many such people in our island community and they are grateful to the members of Friends With Wheels who take them, free of charge.

You can join this effective group with whatever time you have available.  Drivers designate what days they will be free and are called at least 24 hours in advance. You may wish to drive one a week or once a month.  It is entirely up to you.  Call Receivers are on duty one morning of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The Friends With Wheels telephone number is transferred to your home by Call Forwarding from the church.

Does this sound like something to which YOU would like to contribute?  For further information, please contact the coordinator, George Collett.

5th Saturday

5th Saturday is a community-wide day of service which is a product of Islanders' desire to create a "beloved community" as proposed by Dr. Martin Luther King.  Members of Hilton Head Island faith communities and other community groups gather for breakfast and fellowship on the 5th Saturday of the month, whenever one occurs.  They then sign up to spend the rest of the morning on a service project - such as painting the Children's Center, cleaning up a Native Islander graveyard, repairing a porch and wheelchair ramp, or painting the home of a handicapped person.  Please contact us for more information.

Family Promise

Family Promise of Beaufort County, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3), organization for families in transition, one of over 141 Family Promise networks across the nation.  All Saints is one of several area churches that volunteers to support a family, approximately twice a year, by giving them food, shelter, and a warm welcome in the parish hall.  Family Promise has served more than 220,000 people nationally.  More than 60% of guests are children and 80% of families move on to long-term housing.  Click here to learn more, or contact Ginny Trolley or Loni Saunders for information about helping at All Saints.

Lay Care Givers

The Lay Care Givers Ministry is designed to provide pastoral care to people who are facing difficult experiences.  A Lay Care Giver is a trained lay person who listens in a sensitive, non-judgmental way in a caring, supportive, confidential relationship.  People call on Lay Care Givers for a variety of reasons.  Some of these include, but are not limited to job or financial loss, chronic or terminal illness, loneliness, grief, hospitalization, disability, retirement, separation or divorce, and other relationship problems.  The confidentiality of Stephen Ministry enables those facing difficult problems to explore their feelings in a safe environment.

If you are interested for yourself or for another, contact the rector and you will be put in touch with a Lay Care Giver who will follow up on your request and contact you to arrange a convenient time to meet.  The Lay Care Giver Ministry serves All Saints parishioners as well as those in the larger community.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at All Saints is a very active and inter-generational one.  There is a choir that use their voices as part of their ministry, and there is a hand-bell choir for those who like to make music in a different way, although, several of our “ringers” are also involved in the Adult Choir.  Click here to hear some of our music.

June is Family Choir Month.  July is Soloist Month.  August is Reunion Month.

The Adult Choir is open to singers high school age and up.  Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., September through May.  We sing for the weekly 10:15 am service as well as for worship on Holy Days such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and services during Holy Week.  We also love a good party!

The Pelican Ringers, our handbell choir, assigns a specific part to each person.  Rehearsals are full of activity and lots of laughter.  We love and welcome new members.

Order of the Daughters of the King

All Saints Prayer List

The Order of the Daughters of the King is a group open to all Episcopal women, as well as those who share a common communion with Episcopalians. The Order undertakes an obligation to pray regularly for our church, the Anglican community, our nation, peace in the world and also as special intercessions for those who request prayers for healing, spiritual growth and well being, or any other special needs.  To fulfill this outreach ministry of prayer, Daughters vow to pray daily for the order of the church and its clergy and parishioners and for guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.

Members undertake a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. By reaffirmation of the promises made at Confirmation, a Daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.

All Saints chapter also sponsors a Quiet Day once a year, when Daughters from nearby parish chapters are invited to join us.  In additional to the predominant themes of prayer and service, daughters read and discuss books relating to spiritual issues and growth and are soon to begin Reflections on the Psalms by C.S. Lewis.

The current officers are Jen Gajdalo, President, Lucy O'Flaherty, Vice President, Ann Gibson, Secretary, and Marilyn Johnson, Treasurer.  They welcome new members while interested visitors are invited to attend meetings on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 1:15 pm in one of the parish hall meeting rooms.  A 6-week training course is initially required.  Please contact us with any questions.

The Motto of the Order

For His Sake ...
I am but one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.
Lord, what will you have me do?

Centering Prayer

Centering Prayer is a form of contemplative prayer.  Every Monday morning during the fall, winter, and spring, at 9:00 a.m., a group gathers upstairs in the Centering Prayer room.  A second group meets on Wednesday mornings at 9:15 a.m. in Sun City at the home of Fred and Lillian Hill, 705-3469.

The group sits silently for 20 minutes, with the intention of being in God's presence.  We follow the methods laid down by Father Thomas Keating, who said, "Silence is God's first language.  Everything else is a poor translation."  We attempt to make this habit forming in our lives because it is a way to stay centered in a busy world.  Please contact us for more information.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is responsible for preparing the altar for all regular services held in the church, as well as baptisms, weddings, funerals, holy day services, and other special services. Their responsibilities include the purchase and maintenance of vestments, altar linens, Communion vessels, and other materials used for our worship services.

They coordinate with families and prospective Brides and Grooms to prepare for weddings, baptisms and funerals at All Saints.  Members work with families and individuals to insure their needs and the Church’s requirements are met.

The Guild has 24 active members and is always seeking men and women who want to serve the Lord and All Saints Church in this very rewarding capacity.  Please contact us for more information.

Flower Guild

The mission of the Flower Guild of All Saints Church is to enhance Sunday services and special services by gracing the altar with God’s abundance and beauty to us in the nature of flowers.

In addition to the regular Sunday services, we provide flowers for such occasions as funerals and weddings.  We do these arrangements weekly either as teams of two or as a single flower arranger. We come together as an entire group to work on Easter and Christmas decorations.  Our weekly responsibilities are to order flowers and then arrange and put them on the altar for Sunday services.

The Flower Guild is a very rewarding and creative way to serve the church. We are always looking for new members and training is provided.  Please contact us for more information.

Buildings and Grounds

We have a sizable campus here at All Saints.  We do have a part time Sexton who does many chores around the church; however, most of the other work is done by volunteers (or professional help when we can’t do it ourselves).  If you have a skill or particular craft, such as repairing, painting, plumbing, electrical or electronic expertise you could be of vital service to the church for its physical needs.

If you are interested in any of this service to keep our Lord’s house inviting to all who worship here, please contact us.

Lay Eucharistic Ministry

All Saints has an active program of Lay Eucharistic Ministers serving the parish by assisting the clergy at worship services.  They read scripture and prayers and administer the chalice in the Holy Eucharist.  Additionally, some Lay Eucharistic Ministers take the Eucharist to shut-ins after services on Sunday mornings.  New volunteers are always welcome and will be trained to perform this personally enriching ministry.  Please contact Brad Tufts for more information.

Needlework Guild

Crafting beautiful pieces of needlepoint to embellish our church is the purpose of this group of women.  Our elegant altar area kneelers are renown in the Hilton Head Island area and there is always a need for talented fingers to needlepoint additional kneelers for the sanctuary pews.

The Guild also repairs and makes new vestments and lectern and pulpit hangings.  The participation of any skilled (or semi-skilled!) seamstress is always welcome.  Please contact Eleanor Rich for more information.

Holiday Food Baskets

We purchase, assemble, and distribute holiday food baskets to needy families in the community each Thanksgiving and Easter.  These are families that might not otherwise enjoy a hearty family meal for the holiday.  Please contact us for more information.

Deep Well and Bluffton Self Help

We actively solicit our congregation’s participation in donating foodstuffs to support these two wonderful organizations that help feed needy people in the community.  Please contact us for more information. Click here for a copy of the Bluffton Self Help Newsletter.
