Dave Dickson’s Painting is
Selected for the
All Saints Garden Tour 2010 Poster

Ann Winters, Chair of the 2010 All Saints Garden Tour, recently announced that local artist Dave Dickson’s painting, “My Gardener’s Corepsis,” will be featured on the commemorative posters used to promote the group’s Garden Tour this year. His entry was done in acrylic paints and was inspired by the flowers that grew in abundance in his garden in Rhode Island. It will be sold by Silent Auction, culminating on May 15 at the end of the Garden Tour Day, with the announcement of the winning bid.
Dickson is from Wakefield, Rhode Island. After retiring in 1998, he thought it would be stimulating to do something creative that had nothing to do with business. After watching the progress of his wife, Debby, create pastel paintings, he asked himself, “Why not?” While admitting that he is basically a self-taught artist, he did take painting and drawing lessons for three years from Antonia Putnam in Wakefield. In addition, he has taken classes in acrylic painting from Lynda Potter at the Society of Bluffton Artists.
Dickson was a member of the South County Art Association in Rhode Island and exhibited in their member and juried shows. He presently is an exhibiting member of the Art League of Hilton Head and the Society of Buffton Artists, where he currently serves as President.
Jurors who made this selection included Joyce and Don Nagel, as well as Dee Johnson (winner of the 2009 competition). The posters will next be designed, sent to the printer, and in the spring will be displayed in various store-fronts on Hilton Head Island, as well as off-island as part of the advertising campaign for the All Saints Garden Tour.
Meanwhile, Joyce Finkenstadt’s painting, “Daisy Patch,” received the People’s Choice Award. She was presented a cash award in recognition for her painting which garnered the most votes by visitors to the art exhibit. The art exhibit continues to be open to the public through February 19 at the Hilton Head Island Branch of the Beaufort County Library. All of the paintings, other than “My Gardener’s Corepsis” are available for purchase at a designated price.
All proceeds from this year’s Garden Tour will be donated to five local non-profit organizations: Lowcountry Legal Aid, which provides free legal advice, education, and legal representation to low income families; Osprey Village, Inc., which was founded to provide a unique inclusive, residential community for intellectually challenged and developmentally disabled adults; and the All Saints PreSchool Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to students in need who are receiving a quality, developmentally appropriate Christian preschool experience.
